Relating Lab: Embodying our Containment & Protection Boundaries

The Relating Lab sessions during February will focus on exploring our boundaries. Specifically, our Containment and our Protection boundaries.

We are constantly negotiating our meeting point with the world.

Moment to moment, our Containment Boundary will determine our choices around:

How much do I want to reveal myself here? How do I want to express myself? What do I choose to keep close to myself right now? What is appropriate to share here? What aspects of myself do I want to share here?

And, as we move through the world, our Protection Boundary will control our experiences of:

What parts of this experience do I want to let in? How much distance do I need from this person/thing? What am I available for here? Is this statement I am hearing true for me? Am I ready to receive this right now?

In this group session we will explore embodied practices from the Boundaried course that help give us a felt sense of our Containment and Protection boundaries - our boundary system that helps us navigate and hold our choices and responses around all the above sorts of questions.

Practicing these embodied postures can help build our capacity to inhabit our healthy boundaries in our daily lives. So that they become a natural, steady aspect of our being and knowing.

Doing these practices in class, we will slow things down and listen in through our body, to what our boundaries feel like in our system.

For this session:

Ideally, to explore these practices you will need a space in which to stand in front of your computer for this session. If you can, raise your computer to somewhere around your upper abdomen to chest or head height. Plus, around 1m circumference space around you. If that’s not possible, all good, just join us however you can!

We will be doing a solo embodied practice, then join small breakout rooms of 2-3 for the second practice, and back with the whole group for closing shares and discussion. As always, there will be space in this session for sharing and reflecting together, as a way to assist the learning and integration processes.
